선전 국경 도시에서 중국의 실리콘 밸리로: 선전

Shenzhen is a modern marvel that has undergone an epic transformation over the past four decades. Located on the eastern bank of the Pearl River Estuary, bordered by Daya Bay to the east, the Pearl River Estuary to the west, and Hong Kong to the south, it has now become China’s most dynamic innovation hub.

The history of Shenzhen dates back to the Neolithic Age. Nantou Ancient City, with nearly 1,700 years of history, is known as the “Root of Shenzhen and Hong Kong History and Culture,” bearing witness to the changes and evolution of this land. Dapeng Fortress, a coastal defense stronghold from the Ming Dynasty, earned Shenzhen the nickname “Pengcheng.” In 1979, it was still a small border town with a population of less than 30,000. After being designated as a Special Economic Zone in 1980, Shenzhen rose at a breathtaking “Shenzhen Speed,” gradually transforming into a hub of technological innovation.

The city seamlessly blends history and modernity. Nantou Ancient City and Dapeng Fortress tell stories of the past, while modern attractions like Window of the World and Happy Valley showcase its urban vitality. Nature enthusiasts can climb Wutong Mountain, Shenzhen’s highest peak, or observe migratory birds at the Mangrove Nature Reserve in Shenzhen Bay. The 260-kilometer coastline boasts beautiful beaches such as Dameisha and Jiaochangwei, adding leisure charm to urban life.

Shenzhen is also a paradise for food lovers. Local specialties like Shajing oysters, Guangming roasted pigeon, and Nan’ao abalone are unforgettable. Traditional snacks such as rice noodle rolls and bowl cakes carry forward the essence of Cantonese cuisine. Food streets like Dongmen Food Street and Yantian Seafood Street offer visitors a one-stop experience to savor delicacies from all over.
